This week is Hawaiian week at Veranda Park! We celebrated by having a Hawaiian Luau complete with authentic Hawaiian fare and entertainment by the Ha`lau Hula O Na` Pua O Hawaii Nei dancers. We will also have Hawaiian Ukulele players, Hawaiian trivia, Bingo & more! Next week our travel club heads down to San Francisco to take in the culture, food & beauty of the city. Please join Veranda Park in supporting the Children’s Advocacy Center of Medford tonight, July 27th from 7-9 p.m.in our Grand Veranda Dining Room. Tonight marks our 3rd annual “On the Veranda” event which raises money for the Children’s Advocacy Center through a healing art program. The CAC provides children with a safe haven to disclose child abuse and provides them with a means of healing through therapy and mentoring programs. Join us in celebrating these children’s accomplishments with an art auction, live music, wine, and delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by our Executive Chef Mansfield!
In other Veranda Park news, our travel club is planning a 5 day trip to San Francisco next month! We will be staying in historic Union Square, and a doing a bus tour of the city followed by a trip to the Cable Car Museum, lunch on Fisherman’s Wharf, Golden Gate Park, and much more!

This week is Snowflake Festival Week! We will be making snowflakes in the Garden Room, playing snowflake bingo in Courtyard Hall, and indulging in some special snowflake hot chocolate & treats in the Country Kitchen! We will be ending our week with a surprise scenic trip!
Our elegant semi-formal Snowflake Ball will take place on Friday, January 27th from 5:00-7:00 in the dining room. Guests will enjoy a gourmet, chef-prepared dinner with decadent desserts and champagne! We will be featuring the High Society Band for the evening’s entertainment, so put on your dancing shoes & join us! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the front desk. This week, our residents started up a new knitting group, had ballroom dance lessons in Courtyard Hall, enjoyed a wine social featuring musician Joe Diamond, and ended the week with a trip to Lost Creek Lake! Next week, we are starting our month of Documentary movies in the theater room, taking a trip to Sunny Valley Museum, and enjoying a social with Nancy Hawkins! We will be ending the week with a performance by Diane on Violin, and going to the Health Fair at the Medford Armory.

Residents have been keeping busy this Holiday Season! We had a Christmas tap dancing performance from the Celebrity Dance Troup, went to a performance of “The Nutcracker” at North Medford High School, and baked Christmas Cookies in our Country Kitchen. We also enjoyed a performance from the Rogue Valley Harmonizers, and attended “Celtic Christmas” at the Craterian Theater. Residents enjoyed a special Christmas party with a decadent holiday menu, and a musical performance by the Park Place Jazz Band. This week, we are having a mouth-watering Christmas buffet with Prime Rib, Ham, Sweet Potato Mash, Au Gratin Potatoes, Ginger Clove Cranberry Sauce, Pancetta Greenbeens, Cherry-Glazed Carrots with Thyme, and a special Christmas Dessert!

This week, we are having drawing classes in the craft room, Ballroom dancing classes in Courtyard Hall, and heading to the Medford Jazz Jubilee for a show! Next week, we are headed to the Rogue River Lodge for lunch, and will be hearing a reading from Author, Anita Sumariwalla on her book “Memories of Switzerland”. We will be ending the week with a wine social featuring Allen Berman, and a scenic ride to the Applegate Valley to check out the first of the fall foliage!
This week, we are kicking off our September wine tour with a tasting at Schmidt Winery in the scenic Applegate Valley, and indulging in a delicious dinner at our “Dining with the Chef” event in the courtyard. Our Executive Chef Mansfield will be preparing a gourmet barbecue dinner, paired with our special summer cocktails, and an array of homemade desserts. We will also be learning new dance steps in Courtyard Hall, and having a special social featuring The Swing Alongs.
Our Thirsty Thursday is turning into a beach party this week! Residents will be dressing up in their favorite beach attire, and enjoying Mai Tai’s and appetizers in our beautiful courtyard. We will also be taking a trip to the Camelot to see “Barbara Streisand”, and will be going to the movies to see “Help”. We will be ending the week with a wine social and entertainment featuring singer, Nancy Hawkins. Stay tuned for details on next week’s dance party with Gregory Capp!
This week at Veranda Park, we had a dance party with DJ Larry Willis, and enjoyed an elegant dinner with grilled filet mignon served with a cracked pepper red wine sauce, bacon-wrapped shrimp with orange glaze, and parmesan-truffle whipped potatoes- all finished off with your choice of house-made lava cake, chocolate fudge brownies, and caramel walnut cheesecake! Residents and guests danced the night away, and sipped their favorite cocktails while enjoying music from the 40’s, 50’s & 60’s.
The Veranda Park Travel Club is touring Central and Eastern Oregon this week. Residents will enjoy a 4 night/5 day trip focused on the beautiful area around Joseph, Oregon, also known as the “Oregon Alps”. Over 4,000 feet in elevation, Joseph is one of the most beautiful and scenic places in Oregon. The trip will include fine dining, touring the Oregon Trail Museum, The Valley of the Bronze Gallery, and several local artisan shops. We will also take the amazing tram ride overlooking the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and stop at various sites around Wallowa Lake.
Also on the schedule this week is our new Thirsty Thursday cocktail hour in the garden room, followed by dinner and a trip to the Camelot Theater to see “The Sunshine Boys”. We will also be going to North Medford High School to see “Happy Days”. Stay tuned for next week’s events! We will be heading to Grants Pass for the Hellgate Jet boat tours, having a social with “The Swing Alongs”, and going to the Caberet Theater!
Support the Children’s Advocacy Center and the Studio at Living Opportunities in our Annual Art on the Veranda event! The event is July 22nd 7-9 pm and will feature wine and elegant hors d’oeuvres by our Executive Chef Mansfield. You will have the opportunity to bid on the children’s paintings in the art auction. All proceeds go towards funding the Children’s Advocacy Center & the Studio at Living Opportunities!
This week at Veranda Park we are going on a trip to Seven Feathers to test our luck at the casino! Residents will be getting in shape for the summer with our Stretch and Strengthen, Tai Chi, and Exercise with Relaxation classes in our fitness room! We will also be featuring a Blood Pressure Clinic in the Wellness Center, and a Diabetes Clinic in Courtyard Hall to help our residents stay proactive in their health. Marshall Holman will be here speaking on his professional bowling career at our weekly Discussion Group this Wednesday, and Thursday starts our first “Thirsty Thursday Cocktail Hour!” Every Thursday throughout the summer, residents will be enjoying a refreshing summer cocktail in the Garden Room before dinner. Every week will be a different cocktail mixed by our resident bartender. We will also be enjoying an antique car show, and have a social in the dining room featuring the Korean Choir. We are ending the week with a surprise scenic outing to enjoy the beautiful summer weather!

This week we are going fishing and taking a picnic lunch to Fish Lake, Going to Sanctuary One Animal Rescue, and supporting the American Red Cross with a blood drive. We will also be having a wine and cheese pairing in the courtyard, and will enjoy music from singer Larry Willis in the Courtyard Hall.
